Re: iCloud Recently Deleted attachments recovery
> Any ideas? Especially about how to get iCloud to restore the files that it is failing to recover? As security measures for the future, routinely create local (not iCloud) ZIP archive backups of your attachment library and routinely run the backup library option from the File menu in Bookends, agai...

Re: Searching for recently annotated PDFs
Thanks Jon. I've modified to bring the modifiable things up front and to streamline some of the processing. It may run a bit faster. use AppleScript version "2.5" -- macOS 10.11 or later use scripting additions property showerrmsg : false property daysBack : 14 property groupName : "P...

Re: Setting up a shared database
Apologies Jon. I see the distinction. My concern is with the mentality that one can "share" a large number of PDFs with no respect to copyright. The legal and ethical questions surrounding this action are certainly solely for the OP (and anyone else considering such an approach) to resolve.

Re: Setting up a shared database
To start ... You would do well to review copyright restrictions on sharing the PDFs in the way that you describe. At least in the US, Fair Use gives latitude to share for the intent of educational use, but how much you share under such a rubric can be problematic. For example, what strictly defined ...

Re: Initiate an autocomplete search without an attachment?
I have just the title and authors. I do not need nor want the attachment. I want only to fill the remaining information to export as a bibliography for a journal article reference list. Please consider opening up the option to do a title search to autocomplete paper... even when the reference has no...

Initiate an autocomplete search without an attachment?
How do I initiate an autocomplete search on a reference that has no attachment? The context menu option to Autocomplete Paper... is not present and is grayed out in the main menu. I am not interested in doing an OpenURL search (via the browser). In essence ... I have a number of imported references ...

Questions and Feature Requests: Editing to copy to a whiteboard app
I am selecting regions of text in an article that I wish to copy over to a white board app (Curio) as a note taking practice. The deep link approach is a brilliant addition to BE. I have few questions. * The only way to copy text + deep link is to highlight the selection first. To improve on this, c...

Re: PDF annotations and notes not showing up in Note stream
I am responding to your second question about exporting the notes. In addition to the Extract Notes and PDF Annotations option, I've cobbled together a workflow to export information from Bookends to Obsidian. https://forum.obsidian.md/t/workflow-example-bookends-bibliography-management-macos-obsidi...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
> The popover is only relevant when there is selected text, which is going to be only a small fraction of the time one spends with it. I've just begun using Bookends side-by-side with Curio to track the findings in journal articles. I copy text from the PDF and paste on the idea space. I admit that ...

Re: Notice for exact match when renaming an attachment
The current name of the original sources is not scrollable. When both names exceed the dialog box limits, scrolling does not help.

Notice for exact match when renaming an attachment
When a selection is made to rename an attachment, could notice be given when renaming yields the same name as the existing name? Sometimes the name in the opening statement of the dialog is cut off and hides whether the automatic choice is already an exact match to the existing.

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
We may approach reading and annotating differently. I set out with the intent either to read a PDF without annotating it or to markup the PDF while I am reading it. I would look for the toolbar to remain hidden in the former case and the toolbar to be always visible in the latter case. As I noted, I...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
2. Hold down Command when pressing Delete to bypass the annotation-is-being-deleted warning. This is a middle ground, I could remove the requirement for the modifier key if people don't want it. Is the delete action Undo-able (by command-Z)? If not, perhaps err on the side of caution to keep the mo...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
5. The Action gear already has quite few keyboard shortcuts. Which menu items would you like shortcuts added to (and what would they be -- it's getting hard to find unique ones). Can you move this set of options somehow also to the main menus (e.g. under View) and thereby allow the user to set thei...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
A few thoughts ... * Do you have a keyboard shortcut set to switch into and out of full screen mode? Would this not address the problem in a more effective manner? Also, I suspect that you mean that the reference list becomes hidden when in compact mode, not when in widescreen mode. If so, the optio...
