Re: Smart Folder bug?

You can change that to OR by right-clicking on the group pane and specifying how you want multiple selections handled.

File renaming and tag search bugs -- the fix

In the initial release of 13.2.6 there was a bug that caused the extension of a file to be repeated after automatic renaming, e.g. my file.pdf.pdf This would cause Bookends to fail to find the attachment. There was also a bug where searching for a PDF tag would cause an error message when no match w...

Re: Bookends doesn't run in Catalina betas -- update

Spoke too soon. I am indeed seeing semi random crashes in Catalina with PDFKit functions. These are bugs in Catalina, not Bookends, so we'll just have to wait until release and see if they're fixed.

For now, stay away from Catalina betas if you use Bookends.

Re: Bookends doesn't run in Catalina betas -- update

I'm running it in the latest developer's beta and have experienced no problems so far. When you write to me tell me exactly what you did to see this crash.

P.S. I just need the first 3 pages or so of the crash log.

Re: The Bookends Guide to the SBL format

If the Rev is in the reference itself of course Bookends won't output it any differently. The Rev/ref should be in the format. E.g. $Rev ed.$ or $rev ed.$ The documentation explains the use of $ and how to output literal text. And you can control if that text is output at all by placing in in a cond...

Re: Bookends doesn't run in Catalina betas -- update

First, you should Rebuild your library. If that doesn't help you should send the crash log to tech support (support@sonnysoftware.com). Posting on the forum doesn't do any good.

Re: Go from attachment to Bookends entry?

Bookends only stores the attachment name, there is no magic link. The Live Search field doesn't have an option for searching attachments, but that's not a bad idea. I'll look into adding that. As for "open with Bookends", that wouldn't work because that would tell Bookends to attach the PDF (that's ...

Re: The Bookends Guide to the SBL format

Citations (footnotes) and bibliographies are configured separately, so set the case the way you want it for each. Please read the section in the User Guide on how to create and edit formats, it has all the information you need.

Re: The Bookends Guide to the SBL format

Those settings are in preferences. If you use cloud sync those settings will sync between computers. Note that you can't authenticate a new Mac at the moment because of problems with Apple CloudKit. But when that's resolved you'll be able to. https://www.sonnysoftware.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=...

Re: The Bookends Guide to the SBL format

You don't export it. It's a file on your HD that you can move to server, email, etc. Right click on it in the Formats Manager and Bookends will offer to show it in the Finder.

Re: Reference Format

That sounds similar to the Journal of Bacteriology format. You can start with that and tweak it as necessary.

Re: iCloud Sync Won't Authenticate on MacOS

No need for it to be a crisis. If you're syncing macOS <-> iOS know that wi-fi sync still works very well. And for Mac <-> Mac the libraries can be exchanged the old fashioned way (server, email, thumb drive, etc.). Not ideal, but it shouldn't be a crisis.

Re: iCloud Sync Won't Authenticate on MacOS

Nothing yet to report.

You mean you can sign into one machine but not the other? Or that you've only had to sign into one machine (the other was already signed into and is still working)?

Re: iCloud Sync Won't Authenticate on MacOS

Custom format/filter sync can be set up in preferences and requires Dropbox, iCloud Drive, or some other file sync service. It's independent of cloud sync. Reference Types and labels and a few globals (they are listed in the user guide) will be synced automatically if you use cloud sync. You can mov...
