Re: Watch Folder Function & Potential Issue
That's how it has always worked. They are imported when first dragged in. The advice above applies only when there are files in the watch folder when it is first enabled -- those files will be left alone because the "added to folder" event never fires. That's what the dragging out and back...

Re: Write to PDF metadata?
No, Bookends can't do that. Not even Preview does that. There are dedicated apps that can, however, like Adobe Acrobat Reader (Edit Document Properties). You can google for other apps or utilities that let you modify a PDF's metadata.

Re: how to enable keyboard shortcuts in PDF annotation
This is an unintended consequence of changes made to the annotation popover window and is fixed in the next update.

Re: Font change in reference following emoji
Emojis are complex multibyte characters, manipulating them when formatting is not straightforward. Please post the emoji, they can be quite different. Better yet, send it in an email to support@sonnysoftware.com (or do both) to make sure the encoding isn't affected by the forum software. Jon Sonny S...

Re: Feature requests re: PDF annotation interface
I don't agree with #1 (Bookends used to use color for the entire list cell, and it was garish). As for #3, you can open the PDF directly into Preview or whatever PDF editing app you prefer, and scribble as much as you like (and if the PDF viewer uses PDFKit, see it in Bookends). Finally, good news :...

Are they visible in Preview? Posting here isn't going to help, you have to submit a PDF with this issue to support@sonnysoftware.com.

Re: A couple of refinements to the various Copy options
You did. The link is formatted the way it is because it gives you a lot of useful information, far more than the temp cite -- the PDF name, page number, and even part of the highlighted text. It's not for scanning, it's for note taking and cross-referencing. OK, I can see how that would be useful in...

Re: A couple of refinements to the various Copy options
You mean an option for something like Copy Citation as Link? That might result in a link that looks like {Smith, 2025 #12343@45} If so, why? You can't paste it as a link in Word -- Word won't accept it. And if you paste it into a text processor it will appear as a markdown link, which isn't fit for ...

Re: Page link syntax
Bookends creates different links for different purposes, and they each have a distinct syntax. These are not documented, can change, and aren't supported. That number is the PDF's creation date in Unix epoch time, seconds since 1970. You can get that from the PDF yourself via AppleScript. If you hav...

Re: Escaping characters such as { and } when scanning/generating references
Bookends will escape the braces if you enable BibTeX, select BibTeX style, and output with a format with the letters "bibtex" in the name. BUT, that won't help you when scanning -- Bookends itself doesn't deal with escaped characters. You can change the citation delimiters to something els...

Re: Recovery of Hits and Capitaisation of Bibtext files
Never rely on the hits list for any kind of permanent storage. It changes all the time. Static groups are what you should use. There is even a shortcut for putting the hits in a new group. When you create a new static group, and there are hits, a popup that gives you the option to "add to Hits&...

Re: Prevent copying citation into word processor automatically
I can't reproduce the problem where the hierarchical menu doesn't close when you do a Copy Citation and no Word documents are open. Bookends puts the temp citation in the clipboard and switches to Word, that's all. This sounds like a Word issue, where it isn't handling the AppleEvent. If so, Word sh...

Re: Prevent copying citation into word processor automatically
How are you copying the citation? If you "press a key" Command-Y, you just have to make that Option-Command-Y, not exactly a traumatic requirement. Note that in the current version of Bookends this will just switch you to your word processor without copying the temp citation, which is unin...
