Jon, it occurred to me that it would be helpful enough if I could retrieve a list of all paths that Bookends seeks attachments in (i.e. all paths containing at least one Bookends attachment).
Is it possible? Perhaps I could find this info in some .pref file?

Re: Exporting attachment names with full path
It's true, this sounds like a fringe use case, and even I would only need the feature once a year or so. I I don't want to be egocentric, I withdraw my suggestion, unless it's really easy to implement. Thanks anyway.

Exporting attachment names with full path
As part of a major summer housekeeping project, I need to generate a bibliography listing all attachments with their full filesystem path. Unfortunately, the "h" field code generates only the file name, without the full path. Is there a way to achieve this? Jon, would you consider adding t...

Re: Biblio-Bibliography Crash
Against protocol, I guess, I'll just chime in to say that I've faced the same issue numerous times. This is not a regression in the latest release, rather it's been there for some time. As a countermeasure, I now generate my bibliographies in batches of max 500-600 items. Not a problem for me as I n...

Re: Blog posts
In principle this question always depends on the bibliographic style you're working with. Building a style-agnostic bibliographic database is a tall order, because different styles sometimes require different fields or differently formatted data. I believe that the first bibliography manager to addr...

Re: Bookends for BibLaTeX — Insufficient number of UserX fie
If some new code holds up through beta testing, I think you'll you'll find exporting BibTeX-formatted references is much faster in Bookends 12.2. Jon Jon, I haven't yet run a benchmark on my approx. 1800 item database but will do so asap. Meanwhile, could you clarify what exactly has been optimized...

Re: Bookends for BibLaTeX — Insufficient number of UserX fie
Thanks are due not to me but to Jon for developing the best product in the business and for the stellar customer support. I don't think that PM-ing is possible on this forum. But would it be necessary anyway? Unless there is a compeling reason to the contrary (e.g. private data), why not keep the di...

Re: Attachment Folders
When I started using Bookends several years ago, I committed to placing attached books in a "Books" subfolder and attached articles or book chapters in an "Articles" subfolder. In hindsight, this was a mistake. If I had the luxury to start over again I would just pile up all my a...

Re: Bookends for BibLaTeX — Insufficient number of UserX fie
I had forgotten about this thread but Nhaps's bump spurred me on to check out the status quo. It seems that BibLaTeX support is still uncommon among bibliographic managers, and probably incomplete when implemented. I just had the opportunity to play around with JabRef. The database model is, in my o...

Re: Dropbox integration
To pick up on Jon's comment: although there is a well-documented way to sync files outside the ~/Dropbox folder using symlinks, syncing Bookends formats or preferences in this manner will likely result in Bookends crashes. Still, as Jon said, you may use Dropbox to sync the database and attachments.

Re: Feature Request: Context Sensitive Quotation Marks
I can have Bookends automatically convert double quote marks to apostrophes (when it sees that you have a quote mark in the format before the title), but would anyone object? Might that cause problems for you? As long as such functionality is optional (via the preferences, for instance) I see nothi...

Re: Bookends 12: Slow scrolling with BibTeX style
… Or, to suggest an alternative avenue, perhaps there could be a cache containing bibliography previews for each item. The cache would be updated each time an item is added/edited/deleted. This would allow the "formatted" pane to be lightning fast, as it would not involve any database and ...

Re: Bookends 12: Slow scrolling with BibTeX style
On my Macbook 4.1 (a bit faster than your iMac, I guess) I get almost 4 references/second. This seems to indicate a "user-specific" issue, in your words :-) It is not so much the scrolling speed per se that bothers me. Rather, it is the fact that scrolling continues long after I've stopped...
