If you're smart enough to enter smart apostrophes, Bookends will spit them back, too.
touché. I guess I am not smart enough-- how do you do this? I press the quotation key and dumb quotes go in.

a couple of biblio formatting questions

- I have several titles in my bibliography that have decades in them, e.g. 1960s or 1970s. When I scan my document, the titles turn to "1960S" and "1970S." They have lower case "s"s in the reference window. A minor annoyance, but is there any way to fix it? - This is al...

Global Change causes program to quit

I just imported a ton of references, half of which were in all upper case, from the citation index "America: History and Life" (an RIS-format export). I am using Mac OS 10.28 and Bookends 9.0.3. I selected the upper case references, and went to Global Change<Case Change and selected "...

suggestion for future versions

There is a little bug in the automatic formatting of citations: I LOVE that Bookends automatically capitalizes titles as it goes from the reference to the citation. However, there is a convention in many humanities texts of having a catchy quote as part of a title, and the first letter after the quo...

wait, I enthused too soon.. there is one kind of citation I can't get to import quite right in the RIS format. There are book chapters in this database, e.g. TY - CHAP A1 - Cikovsky, Nicolai. T1 - Democratic illusionism T2 - America : the new world in 19th-century painting PB - Munich, London, New Y...

import question

I am using a database that doesn not have a filter in Bookends (Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA)-- by RLG Eureka). They have an "export to database manager" option, in which they give 4 choices of format: ReferenceWorks, Endnote, Procite, and Reference Manager. I exported using the...

figured I'd keep in this thread as I am obviously troubleshooting my first big document... another problem I am having is that there are 3 references in my database that consistently come up as ambiguous. The weird thing is that the window that pops up asking me to choose among the possibilities lis...

I am sure this is something simple that I am overlooking, but.. I am creating a custom ("unused") format for a particular set of newsletters.. and everything is turning out perfectly except that the date comes out with only the year I entered, not the month. I am also having trouble with t...
