Re: How to find size of iCloud library?
Get info on the Bookends folder in iCloud Drive is not available directly on the Mac or when I am logged into iCloud drive on the web portal. This is what started this rabbit hole for me, as I wanted to know how much storage the PDF library was taking up. However, if I open that folder, select all P...

How to find size of iCloud library?
Pardon the simple question, but how do I calculate the size of my BookEnds application library folder that syncs to my iCloud drive?

Re: Clarification on syncing behavior
Sorry, to clarify, I was referring to the metadata. When viewing my library on my office computer, I cannot see the references that I brought into BE at home this morning. I will have to make sure that importing was working correctly back at home just to be sure and will reach out via support contac...

Clarification on syncing behavior
From the BE user guide, cloud syncing is described as, "Bookends checks to see if syncing is required every time a library is opened or closed, or when Bookends moves to the background (e.g. when another application comes to the front)." I'm running v. 14.2.5 on two Macs with iCloud and ha...

Likely not BE problem - missing figures within PDF files
I've noticed several PDFs in my database have missing figures. Many culprits come from the journal Science, and I am pretty sure that these PDFs were fine and viewable in previous versions of the Mac OS, so I am guessing this is a larger PDF rendering issue that is somehow affecting how Apple previe...

Possible sync issue w/ latest iOS update?
I updated to the latest version of iOS yesterday and realized this morning that all of the new references that I placed into BookEnds on my Mac were not showing their respective PDF attachment files in Bookends on iOS. I went through the usual "sync now" command on both the Mac and the iPa...

Thanks,
Reaching out to tech support now, as I can't make it stop and can repeat the problem.

Re: Duplicate entries and missing refs when importing from watch folder
Yep, BookEnds froze hard upon the first attempt. I shut it all down, rebooted, and rebuilt. Still cannot find the missing ref that is sitting in iCloud Drive. Now, I've just realized that BookEnds added the PDF to the preceding reference before it instead of importing as a stand alone reference as i...

Duplicate entries and missing refs when importing from watch folder
My common workflow is to grab PDF's from online journal databases via my university library connection while working in Web of Science. I then quickly import those PDF's into BookEnds by using a keyboard shortcut I created in Automator to send the files to my BookEnds watch folder. Two issues have c...

Re: What is this annotation tool?
Never mind, realize now that it’s a lot easier to just bring the PDF into GoodNotes and copy figures from there.

Re: What is this annotation tool?
Many thanks. So, I guess there’s no easy way to copy elements in the PDF and paste them into another app?

What is this annotation tool?
On the annotate tool bar, what is the 10th item down that looks like a dashed square? I was hoping this was a way to copy figures from my pdf and paste them into GoodNotes, but all I get is a shaded area drawn with my Apple Pencil that then goes away when I lift my pencil. What is this tool supposed...

Advice on rapid emailing multiple refs and PDFs
I have a problem where I will have a long series of papers in my hit list that I would like to email to another person in one quick stroke, along with their respective PDF attachments. The manual implies that this is possible if I am using Apple Mail or outlook, but this feature does not seem possib...

known bug? Can't copy highlighted text
Trying to find out if this is a known limitation of annotating in Bookends. If I highlight text while in BE for iOS, then open the PDF in Preview, I can no longer copy that text which is highlighted to the clipboard. If I highlight text while in Preview, that text is still available for copying to t...

Re: PDF annotation colors
To follow up on this question, I find the the highlighting appearance of the iOS app to be pretty bad and messy. Is there a way to have it function with a line-by-line snap to grid sort of functionality to give it the same behavior as highlighting on the Mac or in other PDF mark up apps in iOS (see ...
