It's a small thing, I guess, but having the current user guide pdf included in the Bookends folder download would be great. One less thing to download, unzip, and move each update.

For my part, in the natural sciences (paleontology), PubMed is pretty much irrelevant but I use Google Scholar almost daily. That said, I'm happy enough just firing up my browser and this addition for me would be more in the "would be nice" as opposed to "must have" category.

Now I understand a little bit of the sorting puzzle. My db gets indeed sorted by author-date in list view when I open BE. NOW: Many times I need to rearrange the list view sorting (when inserting several references in the same footnote we have to use date-author order), so I use the date header. In...

Gerben
Yes, this would be great. Any way to organize groups in the group pane would be very useful.

I agree in general with the bug fix comment (although 10.0.2 with bug fixes was just released for free), but not with "essentially no new features between versions 5 and 9." Unicode support, introduced in version 8, is a new feature. It has vastly improved attachment support. Version 10 w...

I don't have a lot to add, except that the ability to show all authors in list view in Bookends is huge for me. The addition of colours for list display is also great (Sente has this, and in fact does it a little better, because you can add as many different colours as you like, all user-defined). G...

Jon, just fyi: It's not just when you close a reference window that the focus now flips to the info drawer. If you don't have a reference window open, just the list, and have the focus on the list and a reference highlighted, if you switch to a different program, then switch back to Bookends, the fo...

If at some point you were to add user-controlled arbitrary organization, wouldn't that kill both birds with one stone? Anyone who wanted to group lists by type (for whatever reason) would be able to do that, albeit manually.

It would be really nice down the road if the user could rearrange the order of the listing of the groups into something beyond a long, simple, alphabetized list of everything. That way groups in related subject areas could be listed together in the pane. The ability to indent elements of such a user...

So you want the reference to be selected in the list *whenever* it is opened and closed? Not just when a new reference is created and then the window closed? Jon Sonny Software Sorry, I thought that was the case you were asking about. If it's a question of what to do only when a new reference is cr...

What if you have a group selected and the reference you are viewing isn't in it? Jon - Well, in my usage of the program that would never happen, except inadvertently. I would always want to "launch" the Reference window from whatever I was doing in the List window. I guess, just as far as...

That's not a bad idea, but may be hard to implement well. It makes sense if you create a new reference and then immediately close it. But the reference window can stay open while you perform other tasks, and you may not want the reference selected in the List View when you finally close that window...

Hi Jon, As long as the reference window interface and field sizes are being discussed - is there any possibility of increasing the size of the Journal field? I have to enter many, many journal titles (especially Russian ones, for whatever reason) that don't fit in the window and need to scroll. This...

I am not sure if I agree with your argument against check boxes. The whole point is that it is user-specific. It could be an icon, an emoticon, or simply a box with a user-definable name. The problem, though, is really "which"? Jon would then have to provide some icon alternatives as part...

I have never suggested Jon should change the colour coding scheme, other than to allow more flexibility. I do not think flexibility can ever be...
