Re: is it possible to use a field to add the date the ref was created?
Thank you both. I thought I had searched both the program and the manual thoroughly before I posted the question, but apparently not. It was indeed a dumb question, and I much appreciate the courtesy with which it was answered—not found in every user forum!

is it possible to use a field to add the date the ref was created?
First of all, THANK YOU!!! for adding the ability to enter ref's by bar code. This is a wonderful addition to an already terrific program. Next, dumb question # 572: I used the camera/bar code entry method for a number of books all at once, and was hoping to be able to search for them by date create...

problems with 14.1.4
Hi, I just purchased the upgrade. I'm running Monterey, OS 12.4, and the new Bookends is behaving oddly. Most of my searches return "Bad request," my cursor is jumping around all over the place, and in general things are weird. Should I just go back to the older version until I upgrade to ...

new library from a group?
I'm sure the answer to this question exists somewhere, but I can't seem to find it. I'd like to be able to make a new library containing only the items in a specific group; is there a way to do that in one fell swoop? Alternatively, can I do it by creating a new empty library and using drag and drop...

Re: iCloud Sync - sync preferences?
Another question about syncing of preferences between machines: I'd like to sync my global changes, such as renaming fields and changing field order. I'm syncing through iCloud; is this possible? (This is only between two Macs; I don't use the iOS version in the same way.)
thanks
thanks

Re: how to clear a field globally?
I still want to know about clearing a field, but I've solved the accented characters problem (setting on the BibTex tab in Preferences).
Thanks.
Thanks.

how to clear a field globally?
I've returned to Bookends after a long dalliance with EndNote (ugh!). Given that I've returned mostly because of the customizability of Bookends, I'm seriously trying to tailor it to what I need instead of bumbling around and then cursing when it doesn't do what I want. The problem I currently have ...

can't make Notecards from PDF highlights
I imported a PDF from DevonThink, which already had highlights in it. I didn't expect them to be usable in Bookends, and they weren't, so I opened the PDF in Preview, made some new highlights, saved it, and reopened it in BE. All the gear menu commands which refer to highlights and notes/note cards ...

Re: opening online search window elicits error message
Except I am getting this with every filter I've tried. I did in fact download the filters from the FTP site recently; could I have installed them wrong??

opening online search window elicits error message
I just installed 13.1.3. It seemed to be working okay yesterday and earlier today, but just now when I tried an online search, first I got "Bad Request," even though it was very similar to a search which had worked perfectly this morning. I tried more than one website, I closed and reopene...

Re: starting over
Thank you both. Unfortunately, I have already tried everything suggested, and none of it worked: despite my having removed more than one preference file, the old preferences were still there when I opened the library; ditto when starting a new library. I have had Bookends on more than one machine, s...

starting over
Over the course of the years in which I've been dabbling with Bookends, I've changed the names of the fields, often in contradictory and confusing ways. I'd really like to start fresh and create a new bibliography with brand-new preferences. Is there a way to do that? Trashing a plist file or someth...
