Different authors with same surname? Disambiguation problem
I'm sure this must be a common issue with large manuscripts with 100s of citations. I'm using (author date) format (though actually a custom citation format). I have a number of publications that are written by different authors, who have the same surname, writing in the same year. BE disambiguates ...

Re: Revert to "primary order" at start of each chapter
I think I might have a solution. I've decided to break the thesis down into separate documents for each chapter, which are easier to handle anyway. So, here's what I'll do to solve the problem of having ambiguous citations consistently having the same letter next to the year throughout the thesis [i...

import "legacy" word .docx into Mellel
Hiya I'm toying with the idea of switching from Word to Mellel If I have a "legacy" (actually Word 2011 .docx) document with lots of Bookends citations, is there anyway to convert them into Mellel citation objects? Does anyone have a smart bit of Applescript or VBA to do this? Or is it a c...

Revert to "primary order" at start of each chapter
I have a lengthy thesis, divided into chapters. Is it possible to revert to "primary order" of citations at the start of each new chapter? (ie so that the first time a reference is cited in that particular chapter, the primary order is used, regardless of whether that reference was cited i...

Lion diacritics in BE?
I have a lot of references that use diacritics (accented characters). One of the great new features of Lion (borrowed from iOS), is that in many applications, if you hold down a key (say "o"), a menu pops up showing all the possible diacritics for that character; you can click on one, or p...

Re: Automatically add parent items to biblio in author/date
I'd like to ask about the opposite problem as well: Is it possible to exclude a given link relationship from the bibliography when in custom citation mode? In other words, I want the parent book to be automatically included, but I don't want, say, the link relationship "original: translation&qu...

Re: Automatically add parent items to biblio in author/date
Hi Jon
Thanks for the clarification, fast as ever!
Would the parent show up in the biblio even if the custom citation does not invoke the parent? ie is it ok for the custom citation to just be "a d"? Or would it have to be "a [d]" to get the required effect?

Automatically add parent items to biblio in author/date mode
Hi I was recently repurposing a paper for publication in a different venue. This involved changing the citations from full footnotes (ie using a custom citation format) to using intext (author date) format. This is actually something I seem to do a lot in my field, and one of the reasons why good bi...

Re: Question about folder location for Bookends users
Hi Jon
Would we still have the option of choosing where our attachments are stored in preferences/general?
I have my BE attachments folder inside my dropbox (as in http://www.dropbox.com), so that I can read my pdfs on my ipod.
thanks

I have a problem when citing references by title. I followed your tip Jon, and made the author field the same as the title field. My problem is that if I have three such references in the same year, Bookends cites them as 2005a, 2005b, and 2005b, even though the author field is different for each one.
