Lion diacritics in BE?

Post by yojimbo »

I have a lot of references that use diacritics (accented characters).

One of the great new features of Lion (borrowed from iOS), is that in many applications, if you hold down a key (say "o"), a menu pops up showing all the possible diacritics for that character; you can click on one, or press a number key to select it. This is more convenient for me than having to switch between a bunch of different international keyboards.

This feature isn't yet enabled in BE though. If you hold down "o" you just get "ooooooooooooo".

Is it possible that this Lion text feature will be incorporated into BE?

[maybe with an option in preferences to turn it on or off if people don't like it or need it? Other new Lion text features, such as autocomplete/ autocorrection, would be less useful IMHO, as you're typing lots of names etc. It seems possible to have one withtout the other though. Word 2011 for instance has the new diacritics, but doesn't have the new autocomplete]

That's won't work with the current version of Bookends. It's something we'd like to add in the future, but no time frame for that.
