Yes, that would probably indeed be the way to go, also because cited pages would work across all reference types, whereas the notation with only a comma before it is only required when it is preceded by inclusive page numbers formatted using p. and pp.

Jon, the procedure you describe is the way I went as well, but it fails to reproduce the desired result. The format I use specifies the primary citation of a journal article as follows: a, "t", j, v (d), $p. ^pp. $p-$ The Cited Pages is set to output ", " before the cited pages. ...

But that would mean manually typing in information that is aleady present in the DB for each and every such citation, which seems little effective - wouldn't there be a way of BE automatically plucking the inclusive page numbers from the DB and inserting only the specific page by hand into the tempo...

Inclusive page numbers in citations

A journal I was preparing a manuscript for requires first citations of articles and book chapters to list both the inclusive page numbers for the article/chapter as a whole, and the specific page this particular footnote refers to, e.g.: Gijs Kessler, "On Bookends", in Software review , 29...

Just ran a couple of tests: - exported a reference as tab-delimited-text, modified it in a text editor and imprted it into a new database - the reference is assigned a new ID when imported (one point lower than the original one), even though I left the ID intact in the text file - as a check I also ...

Syncing and Palm

I was wondering whether I could tweak the new sync function somehow to create a workflow for using a Palm PDA for entering and modifying bibliographical information when doing library work and sync the changes back to BE when back home. Tentatively, I thought that the following construction might do...

Gerben, which citation format did you use for importing from the clipboard? I tried all options available, but none of them worked, even had the citation posted to my e-mail and then copied to the clipboard from there, but all to no avail, although I indeed remembered this was the way it worked befo...

Just sent you an e-mail. Perhaps this is not a purely individual need, though. I have access to JSTOR not through a direct subscription by my institution, but through a portal, in this case the website of our national library, which allows subscribers to be relegated to the JSTOR website using their...

Just as it used to function in earlier versions of BE - cannot say for sure when it disappeared, just noted at a sudden point that it is no longer there. Its functionality was quite simple - with the insertion point in the keywords field the keystroke would bring up the Keywords term-list from which...

Jon, could you, perhaps brief us on the situation with JSTOR? As I understand from this post we would be able to search JSTOR through the online search function with 10.1.1? It doesn't work on me, though - I get a consistent "Reply Empty" message when I perfrom a search for an article. I t...

I have a very modest request concerning keywords - could we have the command+= keystroke back to insert a keyword in a next release of BE? I now have to climb into the menu to activate the keyword-pane, which is cumbersome. As for the keyword-pane itself, I think it is fine (vote submitted)

Just voted for the keywords field back on main tab, because I enter keywords for any reference I import and having keywords as a separate tab complicates the entry-process.

Jon, dragging and dropping from the drawer would probably be exactly the sort of tweak I had in mind - together with the possibility to drag and drop hyperlinks to references this could be a pretty good way of managing illustrations to articles in a simple, straightforward manner. As for the metadat...

Hi Jon, Obviously including images into a bibliography or citations would not be a standard routine for reference management software, but would it be possible to tweak BE in some sort of way to achieve this? Also, what about image file metadata - would there be a way for BE to "read" this...

BE as a digital image repository

I just spend about half a day searching the web and versiontracker for an appropriate database solution to start building a digital image collection which allows one to associate information at a greater level of detail with each image than iPhoto and a better way of querying this information to ret...
