Sure enough the keywords imported from other databases are indeed posing problems - in fact I adapted all BE import filters to skip the keyword field when importing records, preferring as well to tag my data according to individual preferences. What I have came to value over the years, however, are ...

To fall out with the other posters in this thread, I think revamping Bookends keyword-functionality in the "tag-cloud" direction is a terrible idea. For me at least, databases are a way of reducing information chaos to manageable dimensions so as to facilitate the further use of the data g...

Yes, indeed, this is a new version, but as far as I can see it does not feature the specific Bookends XML functionality the developer talked about earlier on.

Yes, it would of course, but it does not take away the problem of producing forbiddingly large databases.

The major drawback appears the one made by Gerben - the necessity to repeatedly fill in the same information on where the information is derived from, even though of course BE's term lists do make this an easy task. Nonetheless, my earlier experiences with doing exactly this with ProCite (the good o...

Hm, this doesn't sound bad at all - one more reason to update to 9 - if only I could find the time even just to explore these new features! As soon as I will have experimented with them I will report back on my experiences.

Is there any news on this front? Finally got myself a PDA and would really like to use it for my research work, so as not to balance my laptop any longer on rickety card-catalogue drawers in overcrowded libraries.... The link for the beta mentioned by jem renders a "Page not found" - is it...

A pity this thread seems to have bled to death rather soon (perhaps because of the holidays season) - I have been looking for the ideal note-taking solution for many years, and, being a historian as well, I share many of the concerns mentioned by Gerben. Both in archival research and in literature-b...

Jon, the strange thing is, though, that sometimes the refresh does occurr, even when Hits is the selected group - I just had one occurrence when it was not refreshed and one when it was.

Mellel Find Citation does not refresh hit-lis

Facing a problem and unable to determine whether this is and was standard behaviour in BE or not: - From within Mellel option+command+F brings up BE and its search dialog - In search dialog checked options "search in database" and "put results in hit-list, replace hit-list" - Per...

Hm, that is what I suspected, just thought perhaps there would be a way...taking the first two capitalised words with any other words in between for example? But probably you're right that in the end editing the results to be exactly what is required would probably be more work than just manually ch...

Short title

Would there be a way of automatically generating a short title from entries in the full title field for existing references? I never entered short titles with my references because the format I used did not require it, but now I have to use a format which does require the use of a short title in sub...

My field is history, and when a couple of months ago I had to switch from the dicontinued ProCite I extensively tested Endnote, Bookends and Sente to see which of them best suited my purposes. At that time, Bookends was still at version 7.7.5, which was much more limited than the current 8, but even...

This what I just wrote about Bookends 8 for the Mac and History discussion list: "With the upgrade to 8, Bookends has the complete set of features historians would need. Cite while you write now allows for the correct formatting of citations in footnotes, where we would usually place them, the ...
