Re: problem with bibliography when first author and year is the same

You must be using some format you created or selected to create the temp citation. Bad idea. Name and year alone is often going to be ambiguous. I suggest you use author, date, unique id, one of the built-in temp citations that you can select in preferences, Scan & Bib tab.

Re: Request: commands to detach/remove/add attachment items

I don't know about Curio, but DTP seems to make a copy of the PDF and store it in the database bundle https://discourse.devontechnologies.com/t/can-someone-explain-what-happens-to-files-i-save-to-devonthink/55861/3 I added a PDF attachment in DTP and at least in my case I found this to be true -- a ...

Re: Request: commands to detach/remove/add attachment items

Yes, I mentioned that earlier. When you copy add some distinguishing text to the name (Bookends adds a random number), which solves this problem. The fact that Bookends uses the unique file name, and not the pathname, to identify attachments is a major advantage, which you ignore. It gives you enorm...

Re: Request: commands to detach/remove/add attachment items

I think we are perhaps talking at cross purposes. Bookends itself doesn't care where the attachment is, it only cares what the name is, and that's what you're setting in that line of AppleScript. Bookends will find it it is in the default folder, a subfolder, or any ad hoc folder. Where it is locate...

Re: Request: menu option to Replace attachment

Actually, it turns out that the original attachment name WAS removed from the database. But the popup showing the list of attachments and the attachment inspector weren't updated immediately, so the old name was still listed. If you select the reference again after reattaching, that forces an update...

Re: Request: commands to detach/remove/add attachment items

You don't understand. Manipulating the the names IS how you remove or add attachments. Say you have these attachments and want to remove the second one. file1\nfile2\nfile3\n More easily shown as file1 file2 file3 Get the attachments, remove the middle name, and set the attachment field to file1\nfi...

Re: Request: commands to detach/remove/add attachment items

That can already be done. You can access the contents of the attachment field and manipulate the attachments yourself. They are simply a newline-delimited list of file names. attachment 1\nattachment2\nattachment\3 In your script you can remove or add attachments and then write them back to Bookends...

Re: Request: menu option to Replace attachment

Reattach a missing attachment is the same as Replace. Bookends doesn't require that the "reattached" PDF has the same name as the original (and certainly can't know if it's the same PDF or not). Adding an Attach contextual menu if there is no attachment wouldn't be hard, but note that the refs menu ...

Re: syncing preferences

Please download 13.5.5 again, this should be fixed in a silent update. Note that you'll have to edit one Type or field name to force a new sync. Just add a delete a space, that should do it.

Re: Default attachments sub-folder for an open library

Of course it's not going to change, it's a fundamental aspect of how Bookends deals with attachments (and has many advantages). You can rename the attachment when you move it (e.g. add a random number, or whatever) and then update the attachment field in the library to contain the new name. Or not. ...

Re: Default attachments sub-folder for an open library

Bookends doesn't store attachment paths, it stores just the name of the attachment. Bookends will then look in the default folder or subfolders for that attachment. So you must move, not copy, the file to the subfolder, or Bookends will find the pdf of the same name in the default folder. This is wh...

Re: Default attachments sub-folder for an open library

You can't. But you know the name of the default folder. And if you know the subfolders assigned to each library, you can get the name of the open libraries, match them to the subfolders you assigned, and look in /default folder/subfolder1, /default folder/subfolder1, etc.
