Bug? Smart Groups and Color Labels - Groups "detoriate"

Post by strugatzki »

Hello,

Similar to this fellow user I am tracking my work with color labels via smart groups (e.g. all references with status "needs to be read" with or without a combination of keywords or other stuff). This works just fine for a couple of days, but then my smart groups kind of deteriorate, i.e., references with other color labels than defined in the smart group gradually start to show up.

This is quite annoying. Reindexing the database does not solve it. Additionally, it seems you cannot do an SQL query for color/status labels. When I recreate the smart group (you cannot edit them), everything is fine again.

Is this a bug? Is there some kind of workaround? It makes having labels pretty useless to me. Neither is it possible to *Search for color labels* in the find field, so I assume there is some kind of design flaw (probably because color labels were introduced as an afterthought).

Any suggestions?

TIA,
Dominik

Did you do a rebuild (not reindex)?

And you can "search by color label" in the Find dialog. You don't see this option in the popup menu?

it corrects the problem, thank you. so you're saying i should rebuild and save the db under a new name once a week... well, ok.

i can in the find dialog via the menu, but not in the little search field in the toolbar (same as in an SQL group)

thanks anyway,
dominik.

No, not once a week. Only if necessary.

You can't do a live search for color labels (the search is for words only, by design), but you can easily do a Find (Command-F) and fetch them.

upon further testing, it seems that the problem occurs when you change a color label of a reference for the second time. i.e., I create a new reference, it gets the label "unread" and it will show up in the "unread" list, but when i switch it to "excerpt done", it will stay in the "unread" list although its label now is, and remains, "excerpt done".

so it is necessary daily, actually (once a week if you wait so long as for the smart groups becoming unusable...)

I can't reproduce that. Please contact tech support directly and we'll see what the problem is.
