Names

Post by jb »

How do I set up Name Punctuation to get the following (distinguishing two authors and three)?

1) Edelstein, Emma J. and Ludwig Edelstein. Asclepius: Collection and Interpretation of the Testimonies. Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1998.

2) Edelstein, Emma J., Egon Edelstein, and Ludwig Edelstein. Asclepius: Collection and Interpretation of the Testimonies. Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press, 1998.

You mean " and " vs. ", and "?

As the text in the format window says, characters before a ^ are used if 2 names. So you'd enter in "Between last names":

_and_^,_and_

where the underscore is a space.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Does this work for you?

For me, it gives:

Edelstein, Emma J., Egon EdelsteinLudwig Edelstein.

?

I've been confused about just how/where to enter the ^ mark and its accompanying text: apparently immediately after what precedes, to judge by what you write (and I'm sure you know :)
In this format window, 'if 2 names' means really 'if altogether there are 3 names or more ?

Sorry for so many questions. I appreciate your help and your attentiveness.

Edit: Sorry. I see what happened. Somehow it didn't get saved....

All's well. Thanks !

Hi,

Yes it works for me (I just tried it again). Make sure that you have authors and editors using different name punctuation that you edit each one. And if you're using a custom citation format, make sure it is set correctly there.

If you still can't get this to work, please zip and send me your format.
