Switching word processor

Post by jb »

I move back and forth between Scrivener and Mellel for projects at different stages. (Only one open at at time.) And of course when I do this I've got to open Bookends' Preferences, navigate to the app and choose 'Open.' I find this tiresome, and because I've seen a simpler, more convenient system elsewhere—in Sente—I'm wondering whether it would be possible for Bookends to implement a similar, 'always on' way of integrating with word processors. Chez Sente, Command-Y will paste the citation into whatever word processor (whatever that means!) is open. I've used it fine with Scrivener and Mellel, but presumably it works with other apps as well. (On my machine Sente seems to prefer Mellel if it's open, but if it's not open it works fine with Scrivener). Although I've left Sente behind, I miss this particular feature.

Because Bookends is so good, fast, and reliable, I'd like it to be even better. And I'm sure I'm not alone in using more than one 'word processor'...

Hi,

Hm, I'll have to think about that. Do you really need to insert citations into more than one word processor often? And if so, how would Bookends choosing which one is right (Mellel, Word, etc.) at any given time help?

You do know that there is a File -> LInk To menu, right? It's there so you can change your word processor quickly. It will override whatever the default setting is. When you relaunch, you're automatically linked to the default.

Is this helpful?

Hi Jon,
Very helpful. I think at one time I knew about 'Link To'...but obviously had forgotten. This is a perfectly fine solution, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I do use Bookends to insert with more than one, though not at the same time. But switching via preferences even every couple of days is a bit annoying. Fortunately, there's Link to...So I'm a happy camper.

Thanks again.
