PDF display in Bookends

Post by jmckeown »

Using Preview, select all pages, I cropped a PDF to remove huge borders.
This works fine. The PDF saves. Then I attach to Bookends.
But in Bookends viewer pane it still has the old huge border, though if I
doubleclick open I see new trimmed borders as expected.
Puzzled - how can this be?

If you check "Use WebKit to display pdfs" you should see the modified and cropped display.

Thanks for helpful reply.

I see now I was in View-Basic and was
looking at the Main-Notes-Attachments pane.

Now tried View-Attachments and realized I already had WebKit toggled on
and here the PDF displays correctly with borders as cropped.

I guess this means (Main-Notes-)Attachments pane doesnt do WebKit?

It also must mean there is something in the PDF file that remembers its
original size after Preview crop and save, and the nonWebKit display
of (Main-Notes-)Attachments picks up that old information.

best wishes,
John

Ah, I see that main View pane can display other things (just tried a WebArchive) that reference's Attachment pane cannot.
So in future I will keep View set to Attachments, and will stop using the popup reference's Attachments pane.

Hi, the List View attachments pane is more versatile than the attachment tab in the reference window (as you have discovered). Given the flexibility of the List View (reference metadata displayed any way you want in the right pane, attachments of all sorts displayed in the lower pane), I rarely open the reference window anymore.

Yes it is great. The only thing the other pane has that this one doesnt is the
Fit Width button?

If you uncheck "Use Webkit to display pdfs" you'll see that, and right-clicking will give you some options that you won't get with Webkit display.
