Disambiguation in custom citation format

Post by palazzo »

I use a customized version of the ABNT standard (because the standard itself is crap, not Bookends's implementation of it) with a custom citation format going in the footnote. Is there a way to get this custom format to function with disambiguation? I use "op. cit." for repeated references and the correct procedure would be to output the (short) title only when there are 2+ refs by the same author. I could manage to have the template either not output title at all, or else output the title every time.

Hi, the only disambiguation possibilities are "Append letter to year" and "Add initials/names/short title to citation until unique" (this is the MLA method). The latter sounds like it might work, but you'd have to try and see if it's close enough...

Disambiguation only seems to work with author-date citation formats, from what I tested. Guess I'll have to set my citation format to always display the short title. Oh well, no big deal.

No, it works for custom citation formats. That's why the options are only enabled if you click on the custom citation format button. (Author-date automatically uses letters to disambiguate citations).

Weird. Will run some tests on a clean Mellel file to see what I'm doing wrong.
