Show name only for citation?

Post by drleper »

According to my book for APA style, when the same reference is cited twice in the same paragraph, subsequent references should only include the author name (or first author plus et al. if there are multiple authors) and not the year. Is there any way to make this happen? I am using Mellel, and I see that % shows only the date, but is there some way to make Bookends show only the author?

You can exclude the author, but you can't exclude the date. For situation like there, where there is no canned shortcut, you can do one of two things. Since the reference will already be in the bibliography (if there is one), just type the author's name in yourself. That's the easiest. Alternatively, you can type the author's name yourself and then cite the reference using a "self-removing" temporary citation, that is, one preceded by a !
