Disappearing Cursor?
Disappearing Cursor?
I'm using the new Version 11, and I noticed that my cursor disappears when I'm in a field and I try to move the cursor using the arrow keys. The cursor moves but I can't see it until I stop pressing a key. Any idea what is going on? Thanks.

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
Yes. This is a bug in the framework that affects fields in composite windows (doesn't really matter what that means, except that I have to use them to get the large window borders and the toolbar).
At this time I can't do anything about it, although in the future I may be about to. It is annoying though. If enough people want, I can return the reference window back to the old look and you won't see this cursor "submarining". I'm open to everyone's input.

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
While I certainly prefer the new look, the disappearing cursor makes me hold my breath each time I edit. So I vote for the return of the cursor.
Re: Disappearing Cursor?
I would revert this just for the reference window, not the list view window or any other. Just FYI.

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
Jon,
I think you should go back to the old framework. The disappearing cursor really slows me down (feels like the delayed screen refresh I used to get in Virtual PC on my old G3!). I know the code on Bookends goes back quite a way, and you'd rather avoid the conversion, but issues like this seem to point toward moving the whole thing to Cocoa, doesn't it?

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
It's not a matter of coding, it's simply a matter of looks (the new toolbar vs the old).

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
So, this issue wasn't fixed in 11.0.1. Bummer.
Re: Disappearing Cursor?
We have the choice of fixing that or allowing the use of WebKit to display annotated pdfs in the reference window. The later seems more important to people so it was added in 11.0.1.

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
I find the disappearing cursor very difficult to work with. I need to wait to see where it actually is before I can add/delete/change anything. My preference is to not have the cursor disappear.
Re: Disappearing Cursor?
Sorry, but that's not an option at this point unless there is a lot of feedback to that effect. We added the ability to view pdfs with WebKit in the reference window (which allows you to see annotations, copy text, etc.). That feature requires a composite window, which is the reason that the cursor submarines. I'm sure this will be resolved in the future, but for now we're stuck with it unless I rip out the "view pdf annotations" feature in the reference window.

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
I'm also finding the disappearing cursor impossible to deal with. I'm considering pasting into a text editor then pasting back for some edits. That can't be right.
Re: Disappearing Cursor?
So that's two votes for removing the webkit display from the reference window. What do others think?

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
I would also vote for the cursor, even if that means less features for the PDF display. I guess we can then wait for that feature to return when you get around to fixing the underlying issues…
Re: Disappearing Cursor?
I was set to release Bookends 11.0.2 this Saturday. Unless there is a counterrevolution of users who want the pdf annotation feature kept, I'll see I can squeeze ripping it out in time for that release (it may or may not delay things a bit).

Re: Disappearing Cursor?
Hello,
I would also prefer to have full functionality of the cursor.
