Extra space appearing in citation

I'm using the latest versions of Bookends and Pages, and OS X 10.5.8.
WIth APA citations I'm seeing:
A perfectly fine citation to a paper (King & Figueredo, 1997). And then, later on, (King & Figueredo, 1997 ). That is, there is an extra space between the citation year and the closing bracket.
Kind of puzzling, but I'm not sure what might be wrong.
