Subsequent Refs formatting differently in v11?

Hi...

I'm a (fairly inexperienced) version 10.6.4 user, and am trying out version 11. In version 10, when I scanned my document, my references for books formatted the way I want -- titles in italics in first references, shortened titles in italics in all subsequent references. In version 11, however, the same document & database items scan differently: the book titles are properly italicized when first referenced, but the shortened titles are enclosed in quotation marks in all subsequent refs. How can I remedy this?
