Hello, and best wishes for the New Year,
I am unable to import metadata from JStor using the Bookends Browser and the green 'COinS' indicator. The indicator does light up as expected, and I do select the reference in the drop down window that appears as I click on the indicator, but subsequently absolutely nothing happens: No new item in the Bookends database, no attachment downloaded, nothing...
Is the problem on the Bookends or the JStor ends, I wonder?
I will look into this but would appreciate any relevant feedback in the meantime.
Thanks.
Something wrong with COinS in JStor?
Re: Something wrong with COinS in JStor?
UPDATE: I imported COinS metadata from other sources (e.g. my institutional library website, which is COinS-enabled), and it all works fine.
So, either JStor pushes corrupt metadata or Bookends interfaces improperly with JStor for some reason…

Re: Something wrong with COinS in JStor?
JSTOR doesn't use COinS.
I'll check JSTOR out tomorrow. They change their servers from time to time and that can break things.

Interesting… I wonder why the green indicator lights up in the Bookends browser then… Perhaps they are now embedding placeholders for future metadata? Here's hoping…
Re: Something wrong with COinS in JStor?
No, the green icon just means Bookends has detected reference data it can import. It has nothing to do with whether it's COinS or not.

Oh, I see. Then they probably changed something in the servers once again (arrghhh!).
Re: Something wrong with COinS in JStor?
Yes, they have. Importing seems to work OK from the search window (where you search in Bookends Browser and seem multiple hits). But if you click through to the individual reference it doesn't. I'll look into that for the next update, but until then try the first approach mentioned above.

I've uploaded a new build of 11.1.1 that should work with the changes made at JSTOR. Please download Bookends again and give it a try. If there are any remaining issues, please contact tech support directly.
