Hi,
Can author names be treated differently for the [parent] in a metatype?
I can get both surname-only, or both full name, but I haven't worked out how to make just parent surname-only.
i.e. in Works Cited there is the edited book:
Editor-surname, Editor-forename ed. Edited-book-title. Place: Publisher, Year.
and also a separate entry for chapter:
Author-surname, Author-forename. “Chapter-title.” Editor-surname, Editor-forename 125-164.
by changing metatype format manager from Full name" to "Surname only" I get:
Author-surname. “Chapter/essay-title.” Editor-surname 125-164.
but what the MLA Style Guide tells me to do is:
Author-surname, Author-forename. “Chapter-title.” Editor-surname 125-164.
Any suggestions please?
regards,
John

I don't think so. There is a mechanism for authors names and editors names (first and subsequent) but you can't specify different options for the parent and the child.

Thanks for guidance. OK, my work-around is, after generating bibliography, I am running a series of Search-Replace (a FindSet in Mellel) to catch all those editors' names in MLA-style cross-references. It works.

I'm glad that works. Metatypes are already rather complicated to implement (internally), and adding separate control over parent/child names would add considerably to that, and moreso at the level of the UI.
