Feature request: Presence of attachment - smart grp or sor

Post by jcooper11 »

I would find it useful to be able to search for / identify references that do or do not have an attachment. Either have none or one (or more - don't care about the number if greater than one.)
Could this be added to the criteria for a Smart Group... or Find..? Or, in list view, the presence of attachments is indicated by the paper clip. Could this be a separate column on which one could sort? (as in Apple Mail or Eudora.)
Thx.

Never mind. Duh.
Can do this using the Group Attachments, in Bold on Sidebar.

Right. Also, the presence of attachments is indicated by a paper clip already (one if one attachment, two if more than one attachment). This can be turned off in preferences -- maybe you did that by mistake? Please check preferences.

No, I had the paper clips on. But that only identifies them, and I have to check their boxes by hand, right? I can't click on that top of that column, as I can in Apple Mail, for example?

I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. Mark all references in the list at once? That's easy, there are multiple ways. Right click, Refs menu, or check one reference with the Shift key held down (and all will be marked like that reference).

I would like to know how to display only references that do not have an attachment. My request is not for BOT, but for the regular OS X version for desktops and laptops. I found how to display only references that do have attachments, but would like to display only those that do not.

Thank you.

There is an SQL statement for doing that in the User Guide (you can use it in SQL search, or make an SQL smart search group). I can't look for it at the moment, but if you can't find it post again and I'll get the page number for you.

Try this in an SQL search:

Code: Select all

type = 9 AND NOT varCharField REGEX '[a-z]'

Thanks for posting that, Asaf. Be aware that the "type = 9" means it will only match Journal Articles. If you want any reference Type, not just Journal Article, leave that out of the SQL search.
