In my notes for a reference, I sometimes refer to another reference, and it would be nice to actually be able to go to the referred to reference without doing another search. The obvious thing to try was "Copy hypertext link/Copy as link". This creates a bookends://sonnysoftware.com/xxxx type link, which I can insert into the notes for another reference, but the link isn't actually recognized as a link within Bookends, unlike other apps like Stickies, DEvonThink, and so on.
Is there another way to do what I'm trying to do?
Bookends links don't work in Bookends!
Re: Bookends links don't work in Bookends!
Do you know the built/in links feature in Bookends? If you select the reference you're working on and click the inspector icon in the toolbar, you'll get the links inspector. You can now select any reference from the list view and drag on to the inspector. This will create a link between the two references. You can now specify the type of connection between the two references (work cited, translation, review, argument/rebuttal are all there by default, but you can add more in the links preferences), and add notes/quotes etc as you wish. You can even have the number of links associated with any given reference in the display view.
I hope this makes sense! If not, check the Bookends 11 user guide pp. 79-82 for full instructions on how this works. It certainly is one of my top-3 killer features in Bookends.

Re: Bookends links don't work in Bookends!
Thanks, florestan. I had searched in the manual under "linking" rather than "link" or "links", and my search threw up the sections on linking to word processors and on metatypes, and I convinced myself that the latter had replaced the old "links" functionality, and that the correct way now to connect reference to reference was the bookends:// type links. Funny how I always find new ways to misunderstand!
Re: Bookends links don't work in Bookends!
When I use Bookends to Copy Hypertext Link AS LINK, it doesn't work if I try to import the link into Scrivener. BUT, if I use the command Copy Hypertext Link AS TEXT, it does. i.e. it is reversed.
Is this a new bug, is it unique to my system (Mac Lion up-to-date on Mac-Mini) Latest Bookends & Scrivener.
