Customize Endnote import

Post by Galloway »

I am a new user of Bookends and am migrating from EndNote X14. I used a heavily customized version of EndNote X14, making use of custom fields and so forth. Is it possible to specify in Bookends which fields are associated in the import process myself? If I use the standard Endnote XML import in Bookends (using the save as XML from EndNote), some fields are dumped into the notes field in Bookends, into fields I don't want, or combined (such as EndNote's "Year" and "Date" fields being merged together into one field in Bookends).

No, you can't customize XML import. You can use EndNote Refer export/import, and that can be customized as you like (edit the filter in Bookends). But you won't get attachments transferred that way.

Note that you can post-process in Bookends using Global Change operations (move fields, add to fields, etc.) which may be useful in certain cases.
