New Computer; how to transfer formats

Post by Svatopluk »

Dear Forum,

I got a new iMac and I have tried download Bookends from the website as well as copying it from my old machine, together with the libraries in the documents section, but my custom formats have gone. How can I make the transfer and preserve my custom formats?

Many thanks,

S.

If you use Apple's Migration Assistant, they should be transferred. If you don't, you can do it yourself by moving all Custom folders to the corresponding location on your new Mac. There are in this folder

~/LIbrary/Application Support/Bookends

If you can't find your LIbrary folder, read this FAQ entry

Thank you. I move the Bookends folder, exactly as you described, but the custom formats still don't appear. In fact, none of my preferences appear. It's as if I've never used the app before. Luckily I still have my old machine running, with several publication deadlines looming, this seems a risky business…

When you open Biblio -> Formats Manager, are those format listed? If not, you didn't move the old folder to the right location. It must be in the username space (as indicated in the pathname I gave you, with more details in the FAQ). If you think you've moved it correctly and don't see the formats, contact tech support directly (support@sonnysoftware.com).

In 10.8.2 there is no library folder under the user directory. The library folder only appears under the main directory (Macintosh HD). That's where I've put the app support folder for Bookends.

Yes there is, or Bookends won't run. Please contact tech support.

I have done. How strange that the arrangement of directories has changed so much between version of the OS?

I figured it out. In the new OS, the user>library is hidden, so you have use the Go menu in the finder and hold down the option key for it to appear. Copied the old folder to there and... sorted.

Thanks Jon.

Yes, that's what the link to our FAQ in my first post points out. In Lion and Mountain Lion, the user Library is hidden by default.
