Metatypes

Post by noumenal »

I'm sorry, but I just cannot get my head around metatypes.

In a custom format, I have a Book Chapter type, and I have an Edited Book type. Both of these appear correctly when citing a reference of either of these types.

Next I define a relationship between a Book Chapter reference and an Edited Book reference in my database, such that the Book Chapter reference is described as the Book Section (child) and the Edited Book reference as the Book (parent).

Then I establish a custom citation type for the Book Section [Book] metatype, which is subtly different from the Book Chapter format. I ask the citation options to use metatypes 'For all children'.

But whether I cite in Mellel or look at the Example Citation in the Formats Manager, the output is always for the Book Chapter type. Even when I'm looking at the Book Section [Book] metatype in the Formats Manager pane, nothing I type in the field boxes changes the output. It just keeps showing me the Book Chapter type (whatever I put into the format for *that* type simply shows up as the example when I'm supposedly looking at the metatype format).

I just cannot figure out what I'm doing wrong - please help!

I'm using Bookends 12.0.3 and Mellel 3.2

The format window may or may not show the metatype display depending on what reference is selected in the library window. Metatypes are working for me. Make sure that with the scan you're looking at the right thing (that is, you can have metatypes for bibs, footnotes, or both). You might wait for the next Bookends update, too, there are quite a few fixes for a number of things in it. If the problem persists then, you should contact tech support directly.
