I've set up a watch folder and tested it with two recently downloaded PDF's. It worked flawlessly the first time. After dragging another PDF to the folder BookEnds does nothing with it, and I'm wondering why.
I've made sure BookEnds is the front window and have attempted to refresh the view by clicking "All." Is there anyway to know why BookEnds does not want to work with this particular PDF file in the watch folder?
It seems that the design of the watch folder isn't quite ready for prime time. I would rather see a folder that is "watched" by BookEnds without my library window having to sit in front, but so long as BookEnds is open it would be much better if it could work in the background and process new PDF files without my interruption.
Watch folder problems & feature request
Re: Watch folder problems & feature request
Bookends will work when it's in the background now (did I not change the documentation to reflect that? Please tell me where I have to update this info)?
There are a number of issues with watch folders that have been fixed for the next update. Try again with 12.0.5 when it's out. For now, realize that if Bookends can't move a pdf (for whatever reason) it will turn the watch feature off (otherwise it would try every second for the rest of time).

Thanks Jon, I look forward to the next version.
The outdated description of the watch folder functionality is on the bottom of p. 264 in the user guide.

Re: Watch folder problems & feature request
Apologies for jumping in here - but not sure this warrants a new thread.
I'm having problems getting the Watch Folder to work properly - it appears to keep on reverting back to wanting to 'watch' a folder I had initially tested the process on.
I have created a new folder, and configured BE to 'watch' it - but cannot seem to get the import to trigger. When I place a pdf into the folder, nothing happens.
Any suggestions?

Are you sure it's watching the old folder? How do you know? What happens when you configure a fresh new database to watch the new folder?

Hi Jon - please see the attached pic of the message that pops up.Jon wrote:Are you sure it's watching the old folder? How do you know? What happens when you configure a fresh new database to watch the new folder?

As mentioned - it keeps on looking in the folder I had set up initially, despite my having configured a new Watch folder.
Re: Watch folder problems & feature request
That message doesn't identify the watch folder, just the pdf. Is that pdf in the old folder? And more importantly, why can't it be moved?
