My questions are very general in nature.
I noticed that Bookends has the possibility to add tags to attachments. I am happy to see that those tags are also visible in the normal Mac Finder and DevonThink. Really love that feature. However, those tags do not show up in the Tag cloud inside Bookends, which seems to use Keywords assigned to the attachments.
So my questions are:
1. Why are there two different systems to tag attachments (keywords are kind of tags for me)?
2. Is there a way to consolidate the two?
3. Or is there a way to chose tags instead of keywords for the Tag cloud? As the Tag cloud already allows to chose Keywords, Abstract, Author, etc.
Thanks for the great reference manager,
Tim
What is the difference between tags and keywords?
Re: What is the difference between tags and keywords?
The tags for attachments (known as Finder tags) are saved with the PDF, and are searchable in the Finder (and within Bookends). These tags are not saved in the Bookends database.
Keywords (sometimes called tags) are saved in the Bookends database. Bookends will also generate "tags" for fields, based on field content (authors, abstract, notes, etc.). It can then generate a "tag cloud" based on these words.
These two kinds of tags, one set stored in individual PDFs and the other stored in the database) can't be mixed in the tag cloud.
The notion of adding Finder tags as on option for the tag cloud is an interesting one. I'd have to see if it's feasible, and if so that it wouldn't be too slow (since every PDF would have to be opened by Bookends and the tags extracted).

Re: What is the difference between tags and keywords?
I have added File Tags as an option for the tag cloud in the next update (12.5.
. It will let you see all your PDF tags at once, the size and color reflecting the frequency used, and quickly find references based on their attachment tags. If you or anyone else reading this thread would like to test it, please get in touch (support@sonnysoftware.com).
