Cleaning caches like suggested author names and keeping keywords & journals in check

Post by Jasso »

Hi again.

This is a very minor issue, but something that I've been wondering for awhile now.

Is there a way to "purge the cache" of author names in the database? Because I have noticed that Bookends seems to remember also older names I have entered there. This affects the way Bookends suggests author names to me as I'm typing.

Happened again today. I had previously entered "Poggenpohl, Sharon" into one ref. Now I was entering another ref from the same author, and I noticed the new article had more specific information about her: the full name is "Poggenpohl, Sharon Helmer". Okay, no big deal. I just enter the full name and quickly copy paste it to the other ref as well. (No point in doing a global change as it's just one instance.) This means that all the instances of this author in the references are now in the same full name format.

But if I go to enter a new reference and start typing, Bookends will still suggest the older shorter version of the name. So Bookends seems to keep some cache of these names. Can I purge that somehow so that these old ghost names would not pop up in the suggestions anymore?

On a related note: I have also been wondering about controlling keywords better. There too it's great that Bookends gives suggestions. But sometimes because of a manual mistake, or from importing articles from the web, I end up with several spellings and alternative forms of keywords. I would love it if Bookends had some way of controlling things like keywords and journal names better (I know, the Glossary helps with the latter but it could be made even more useful). So that I could keep them more unified. For example, perhaps something similar to how one can control tags and categories in Wordpress:

There are a variety of tools in the Term List window (right-click works, too) that address your requests.

Update Terms will remove outdated terms (pressing the Delete key with the Term List window open does the same thing).

Replace will let you globally replace a misspelled (for example) keyword with the correct one.

Oooops... Sorry. Feel stupid now. Once again Bookends just has more than I know. Thanks for pointing that out.
