Hello,
I am encountering a problem I can't figure out how to solve it.
In an existing references list, I am adding new entries.
I would like that these entries would be sorted in an A-->Z order of authors.
I found that after clicking this command Hits--> Sort Hits list, the results are not completely by alphabeting order, and that the list doesn't start with ref no. 1.
Is there a way to have all references, in my case 89 in number, in an ordered list.
A second question: is there a Search function in the References list database?
TIA
Raymond
Sorting references list
Re: Sorting references list
You are confusing the list window view with the hits list. The list window view is sorted according to the first column, or any column head you click on. The hits list is independent of this and is used for ordering bibliographies, for example. If you want the list window sorted the same as the hits list, uncheck "List Window View -> Sort" in preferences (List tab).raymond wrote:In an existing references list, I am adding new entries.

There are several searches in Bookends. I'm not sure exactly what you are asking for, but there is Live Search in the list view window, Find and SQL/Regex searches (which search the databas), and "Refs -> Find in this reference", which will search the currently open reference window.A second question: is there a Search function in the References list database?

Thanks for your proposal.
What are the consequences of unchecking as you propose.

I wish to be able to search a reference in a database of references belonging to one document. I have a database of let say 90 entries, and would like to find one of them, by the author name or by another indication.
Where exactly is this "list view window" and its find command.
TIA for your explanations
Raymond
Re: Sorting references list
The consequence is that the window will display the references in the order they are in the hits list (so if you do a Hits -> Sort that order will be reflected in the list view). Try it and see. If you click on a column header the list will resort to the contents of that column.

You would be well served by taking the Bookends tutorial. Many simple questions like this are addressed there.
The list view window is the main window. The live search box is at the top right -- type any text from the reference there (e.g. author name) and you'll see the matching references. More complex searches can be done with Refs -> Find (Command-F).

Thank you - this has saved my bacon and been really useful (that and knowing the Date is alphanumeric).Jon wrote: ↑Wed May 28, 2008 11:33 am The consequence is that the window will display the references in the order they are in the hits list (so if you do a Hits -> Sort that order will be reflected in the list view).
