Sort Reference Type in 'Reference Edit Pane'

I have added a number of custom reference types.

I would like to be able to sort them alphabetically in the Reference Edit Pane so that I can find them quicker to apply to new entries.

Is this possible?

The a type's order in the list is a property that is used internally for many things and can't be changed.
