Searching through the content of my library

Post by heatedfrogger »

I'm hoping that I'm being incredibly dense, but Bookends isn't quite performing as I'd hoped when searching for files in my library. I'm trialling the product before purchasing, so please forgive the question. I have read through the tutorial and the user guide.

Specifically, Bookends doesn't seem to be searching through the content of my PDFs - and it's not that they're not searchable OCR files, because they definitely are.
As an example, I was trying to find an article that was discussing a novel way of using a drug "mycophenolate". Putting that search term in yielded quite a few articles, but not the one I was looking for. On finding the article, I could search within the article using that search term to find the relevant section.

Is there a way I can do a full-text search of my Bookends library natively within the app? If not, what other applications are you using to do this?

I assume you are using the live search field? If you click on the popup magnifying glass icon and scroll down, you'll see the option to search attachments (using Spotlight). That's what you want.

You can combine database and Spotlight searches, too, by using the Find (Command-F) dialog, or creating a smart group.

Thanks for the rapid reply - that has absolutely done what I wanted it to, and that was my only reservation with moving across. Excited to be a full user!
