Importing tab-delimited (Booxster) files

Post by jdarsey »

I read with interest an earlier query regarding Bookends and Booxster. My question is a little different than the earlier question. I'm just checking out Booxster and see great utility here if I can get my entire library into Bookends via scanning barcodes with Booxster and my iSight. I've successfully exported some Booxster scans as tab-delimited format with multipe columns, and I've imported them into Bookends, but I wasn't able to figure out how to tell either program where each field should be put in Bookends. I've checked the Bookends user manual and have found instructions for importing from earlier versions of Bookends and from other programs, but I'm not finding instructions on how to assign fields for tab-delimited imports. What am I missing?

Hi jdarsey,

To import a tab-delimited file that was not exported from Bookends, you'd have to create an import filter that uses the Source parser. The details about this can be found in the User Guide (a separate download). In brief, you'd import the characters between the tabs into whichever fields you wanted to assign.

Give it a try. If you have problems, send me the file you are trying to import (support@sonnysoftware.com).
