Hi all. Bookends can't directly find the pdf in PubMed because each journal links to them differently. iPapers can do this (semi)automatically because it builds the web page in its own window, and can monitor for downloads.
This is something I'll be looking into...

Jon,
just checking whether you had made any progress on this. I think it would be a great improvement to Bookends...
Thanks

Hi pepe,
I agree with you. I've been thinking about it, but implementation of transparent attaching will require some serious effort, and there are some structural things that need to be in place that aren't yet.
One trick I've found that helps a little bit is that if you have a pdf open in Preview, you can drag the avatar (the picture of the file in the title bar of Preview) and drop it on Bookends, and it will attach the file (and move it). Saves going to the Finder...

two issues i have noted with attaching (laboriously) a old large library of pdf's via spotlight
1. spotlight isnt a great search engine in pdf text, unless one has named files well (duh i learn the hard way)
2. i have some papers with the same name ( my fault) in different folders
ie sciencedirect 02.pdf
i have attached one of them via the attach button, but on revisiting the reference, it goes to the other pdf of the same name, is there an issue with file hierachy storage? i mean i havent moved the files, so why cant bookends remember my attachment?
i have ended up making sure each has its individual file name before attaching
cheer

indicating attached file in list?
ok Jon, is there a way to see if a ref has an attachment in the list without opening its individual ref window. would save making a group for those i dont have pdf's for (which is lots), but need to search or ask around for. is this a worthwhile feature, could it be incorporated into a smart group?
