Symbol font problem

Post by grebmar »

I can't find an answer to this problem in the manual or in the forums. I have been converting my references from Endnote to BE, and many of these involve chemical names with a single Greek letter alpha, beta, etc. prefixing the compound name. I had to do some manipulation, and the symbols now appear properly in the "view formatted" window. When I copy the reference (formatted, using Command-K) to paste in Word, however, Word will not recognize the symbol--it puts a random character from the symbol font in, but not alpha, beta, etc. This problem does not occur for Mellel, which I have also been evaluating. Changing to UTF-8 or UTF-16 with the bibliography formatter does not solve the problem, and in fact strips the remaining formatting off the reference.

Am I missing something?

What version of Word are you using? Word 2001 can't handle Unicode. Word 2004 can.

That's probably it. I am using the first version of Word for OS X. I will try it on another machine. Thanks for the quick reply!
