Ibid not quite working

BE will put "Ibid." in the footnotes when there are two identical and sequential sources cited, but it will also put "Ibid." in the footnotes when there are two identical sources with another footnote (inserted by me; not a reference, just a parenthetical note) between them

BE seems not to be "seeing" or recognizing that footnote inserted by me; hence it puts the "Ibid."

I am using Word 2004 and Turabian formatting with "custom citation format" (with "For repeated citations ..." checked to use "Ibid.").

Any thoughts?

That's right. Bookends doesn't know anything about what you type into the Word document, it only knows about information it inserts. If you manually insert text between the footnotes Bookends doesn't doesn't know about it. You'll have to post-process the document after scanning and copy/paste the full citation into the second footnote.
