Universal binary update

Post by Jon »

We have a universal binary version of Bookends running in house (yes, it is quite zippy on Intel). We will have a very limited private beta process in the next week or so. We will select only registered users as testers, and favor those that can run Bookends on an Intel Mac *and* a PPC Mac (to ensure that there are no "endian" issues when databases are transfered between architectures).

If you meet these criteria and want to be a beta tester, please contact me directly. If you don't hear back in a week it means you weren't selected (sorry). And for those who are wondering, the universal binary will be a free update for anyone who bought Bookends 8 or later.

The beta is running well and is indeed snappier, as Jon noted. Thanks again for the great work!

Make sure you report any bugs you may find.

So far, only one cosmetic bug was reported (fixed). The few other problems I've heard of were fixed by a database rebuild. Given the extensive nature of this update (virtually every major portion of code was affected) I'm pleased so far that no major bugs have been found, but I encourage anyone with the beta to really stress it to make sure it's sound before final release.

A quick update.

We've fixed all of the bugs that have been brought to our attention, so this is the last call for bug reports! If no more are reported, we expect to release 9.1 soon.

9.1 is indeed zippier. Thank you :)

I had a slight problem with attaching PDF's. They were renamed and moved OK but the text entered into the database was being corrupted

e.g. (after exporting to xml)
<image>
<style face="normal" font="default" size="100%">???????????????????????</style>
</image>

Rebuilding the database seems to have solved this though. So convert and then rebuild seems to be the go.
