different authors w/ same last name scan as same

Post by Ketchum geek »

First of all, Bookends changed my life, for the better. Endnote was SO evil and I can't even BEGIN to describe how much better this software is. Thanks!

Anyway, I can't find an answer to this on the forum, so here it is:

I want to scan this temporary in-text citation {Gadamer, 1976, #664; Ricoeur, 1981, #663; Gadamer, 1989, #774; Gallagher, 1992, #773; Gallagher, 1996, #577; Nakkula and Ravitch, 1998, #90 so that it is formatted into an APA 5th style citation. Note that the two Gadamer citations are the SAME author but the two Gallagher citations are from DIFFERET authors (one Shaun and the other Deborah). When I scan it, it looks like this: (Gadamer, 1976, 1989; Gallagher, 1992, 1996; Nakkula and Ravitch, 1998; Ricoeur, 1981), which makes it appear as if the Gallaghers are the same even though they have different #'ed identifiers in the ermporary citation. Bookends did real nice with the Gadamers, though. So, how do I get Bookends to specify two different authors when they share the same last name?

Again, great software and support. Hope someone out there knows how to tweak this one, rare though it may be.

Hi,

I don't think you can differentiate them, and I don't think it would make any sense since only the surname is used to distinguish the citations. I mean, when you want to look up the citation in the bib, you'll see the name and the date, which distinguishes them. I'm not sure what else Bookends would do with APA (note, Bookends won't add first names to citations to distinguish them in situations like this, which I believe MLA calls for but APA does not, AFAIK).
