I downloaded Bookends to try it out and discovered an immediate problem that makes it unusable for me until this is solved. I have heard that support is much better for Bookends than for Endnote and with the latter's userbase and glacial response history perhaps that is true but I was hoping for a response to my email by now as it was sent a week ago. Here it is:
I just downloaded the trial version and was working my way through the tutorial but when typing in the author, title, etc. (Washington, George), strange Chinese characters appear rather than English characters. I checked under the preferences area and found "Times" the default font. Changing it to "Times New Roman" did not help. The only difference happened when I actually changed the font under the font menu (which has to be done manually for each new field--I had to do the same when entering the Title, etc.). How can this problem be solved? The error occurred with the trial version of Bookends 9.1, downloaded and installed on 12-5-06, running on a MacBook (1.83 GHz) with OS X 10.4.8 and 2GB of RAM.
I would appreciate anybody's help with this as well as a more realistic idea of the kind of support I can expect from SonnySoftware.
The database was empty. As I said, this was a trial version. The font problem appeared from the get-go. Does the database really require repair at the outset?
By the way, the email address you gave is in fact the email address I used with this question. I sent an email to that address on 12/5/06 but never received a reply--thus my resort to the forum.
For what it is worth, I personally rank the support given by Jon at Sonny Software to be the best on the market. I have not seen any faster support from any other software company (I regard the Redlex company, the makers of Mellel, to be very close to be as fast as Jon at Sonny Software, though).

I second macsailor's comments. Jon has always responded immediately to both issues posted on this board and personal emails (I had some issues logging in here, which necessitated contacting Jon directly; he responded within a couple hours on a Saturday).
He offers by far the best support I have ever seen from any developer.
Thank you everybody for your comments. I've sent the database to Jon so hopefully I'll get the problem worked out soon. Perhaps his reply email to me did get dumped as spam. I do appreciate the quick response I'm receiving from him.
