I find that the more I work with other applications during my research (DT for me, probably OmniOutliner and Scrivener for others) the more I would like to be able to copy citation and copy formatted quickly. But I link BE with Mellel, as it is my word processor of choice.
Can I suggest that BE add to the edit menu "Copy Citation (unlinked)", and "Copy Formatted (unlinked)"? These would add the citations to the clipboard, so that they can be pasted in another program. Perhaps a similar shortcut key like command>control>Y/K.
This would increase work between Bookends and other programs, while being able to keep its main connection with Mellel (or the word processor of choice). It would also help with integration between programs in that I would be able to add temporary citations in a file written in DT or Scrivener, and later be able to export that text out to Mellel for finalization with recognizable temporary citations.
Then I can suggest to Mellel that they automatically recognize temporary citations with the { } delimiters when importing an RTF file. In the meantime, those citations brought into Mellel can be highlighted and "converted to citation" in the Mellel Bibliography palette.

You can quickly (and temporarily) unlink/link Bookends to Mellel with the Link popup menu in the reference window. When temporarily unlinked, Copy Citation/Format will put the information in the clipboard without switching. You could also temporarily link to DR and then back to Mellel if you wanted.

This is definitely the only option right now but it does slow down the process. The beauty right now with Mellel/BE citing is not having to use the mouse — that same functionality would be great with other programs.
But the more obvious limitation of this choice is that you need to go into the reference window to link and unlink, it cannot be done in the list view where most of us live. Perhaps I am incorrect on this point, but I can't find a way to link/unlink the database in the list view.

I agree. But if you are not open to "copy citation (unlinked)" commands like I suggested, then perhaps we could make do with being able to change the linking of the database from the list view, say in the File menu. the list UI definitely doesn't need any more to clutter it upJon wrote:No, there is no place in the List View for this pop-up menu.

I would also like to see some sort of implementation of Copy Formatted (unlinked).danzac wrote:I find that the more I work with other applications during my research (DT for me, probably OmniOutliner and Scrivener for others) the more I would like to be able to copy citation and copy formatted quickly.
