Customize toolbar?

Post by royboy »

Hello Jon:
Just migrated to a lovely Core2Duo MBP and BE v9.1 universal binary, but I spent so much time in the prefs menu that I wondered if it was possible to incorporate into a future release a "customize toolbar" command a la Safari etc where toolbar buttons (including Preferences!) could be dragged into the toolbar from a menu?
In addition, I would like to reiterate a request from some colleagues to whom I have introduced BE, for a proper date sorting function, not based on alphabetical date order, but true date order.
Best regards,
Rob

Hi,

True date sorting sounds nice, but it really isn't practical. You can grab (import) date from thousands of sources, and they are not in a uniform syntax. There is no way to reconcile the dozens of ways dates can be represented and convert them to a uniform (and thus sortable) order. I could force everyone to enter dates in an "acceptable" way, but that's not possible for downloaded information.

Okay, certainly the date formats appear pretty flakey.
Is the toolbar request a possibility?

You can add the ref# field to the view in the preferences. That's what I use to get a relative idea of "when" something was imported.

At least it lets me see the most recent imports at the top of the window.

Were you asking about the "date imported" (or created) to the database for references?

Not in the near future. But rather than providing a solution, why not tell me exactly what problem you're trying to solve?
