accessing British library and/or COPAC

Post by stuart »

I'm trying to access the British library catalogue using internet search but get the following message "<h1>Failed to Initialize to blpcz.bl.uk". Is there anything that I can do to fix this or do I need to wait for a fix in a later version?

Bookends looks great, starts with a high store of goodwill on my part—I even paid for it straight away—but the continued crashes and stumbles are fast eating into my patience.

It looks like the access information changed since the time that filter was created. Contact me directly and I'll send you an updated one (which will be included in the next release).

Some people had more problems with others with database engine issues in 8.0. Most of the problems were cured in 8.0.1 (you have that, right?), and more will be taken care of in 8.0.2. If you have a particular problem that needs to be dealt with, please contact me directly.

I'm using 801 and getting the same thing with the London School of Economics and Kings College London.

King's College changed the server and port after the filter was created -- fixed.

London School of Economics just doesn't respond -- it may be that this server is down (or they changed the connection info...)

I've fixed the British Library and COPAC filters.

I'll be uploading all of these with 8.0.2. If anyone wants the ones that work before then, just email me and I'll send them to you.

Funny, I had this error today as well for a Canadian library. I restarted Bookends without changing anything, and the problem did not recur.

Servers go down, or have their function interrupted, all the time. If a filter works once, it means that things are fine on Bookends' end (unless the library changes its settings, but that's obviously not done often).
