volume and issue for arbitrary type?

Is there a way to make the volume field of an arbitrary reference type behave as a volume and issue field?

I have a type 'Review' that has identical formatting to journal article, but the output is different since I haven't found a way to get volume and issue output separately for this type.

If you add the word "Journal" to the Type, Bookends will treat it as a variant of a journal article.

So rename "Review" to "Journal Review" in Preferences, and you can output the two independently:

(assuming the volume field had 182(9) in it)

I may have missed this in the user guide, but if it's not there already, it might be worth adding -- perhaps on page 113.

My mistake. It is already in the user guide, on page 126, under the heading "Include Issue # with Vol.". Sorry Jon, I should have found that before.

It's a big user guide, I'm afraid. It's there on p. 126:

Include Issue # with Vol. Many on-line databases include an issue number in
parentheses after the volume number. If the reference's Type is in the same position in
the list as the default Journal Article, is "Magazine", or contains the word "Journal"
(the case of the letters is irrelevant) and the Include Issue # with Vol. button is not
checked, any data starting with a parenthesis in the Vol (Issue) field is suppressed and
the issue number will not appear in the output. If the reference's Type is not in the
same position in the list as the default Journal Article, does not contain the word
"Journal", and is not "Magazine", the entire contents of the Vol (Issue) field will be
output.
