This may in fact be possible in Bookend's current syntax for formatting citations -- in which case I would much appreciate some guidance; if it's not, perhaps this might be placed in the "requested features" hopper...

I'd like to have the ability to change the formatting of a field in my database depending on a simple string-matching check. Here's the specific situation: the MLA format for theses & dissertations stipulates that for MA and MFA theses, the citation look like this:

Brown, Lyndsay Anne, “‘Learning How to See What Isn’t There Yet’: An Investigation of the Fan Music Video.â€

The way I deal with this is that I put the value thesis (German examples would be “Diplomarbeitâ€

Thus begins the decent into perl. :-)

I don't have plans to add that kind of programmatic logic to the format parsing. What I'd suggest in this case is quite simple -- add a Type for PhD Thesis and one for Masters Thesis, and edit the formats accordingly.
