Extra comma with multiple authors

Post by Svatopluk »

I have entered two authors names like this:

Doe, John
Deer, Jane

They are rendered as John Doe, and Jane Deer.

Why the comma, even though I've entered them on separate lines? I've dug though the guide but can't seem to find an answer. Any ideas what I'm missing?

Thanks,

Hi,

The format you are using no doubt calls for a comma between the penultimate and ultimate author. If you want that for 3 or more authors but not for 2, edit the "between last names" field in the format to something like this

_^,_

where _ represents a space.

Thanks Jon. Might your solution then cause formatting problems for those reference where there are three or more authors?

No, they use what's to the right of the caret.

Please see the user guide on formatting. It covers this (and other) issues in detail.

Thanks Jon, I must have missed it in the guide (sorry about that).
