problem with journal article format

Post by proteus »

Hello,
I am using a custom format for journal article entries, the end of which is
$Vol.$v |~No.~i, d

meaning, if I understood correctly, that No. will be printed out only if issue is present.
The above works fine if I only put a volume number in the field in the bibliographic entry. Ie. inputting only 20 results in "Vol.20" being outputted. However, if I enter say 20(2) , with 2 being the issue number, I get
Vol.20 2
as output, and not
Vol.20 No.2
as I would need and was expecting...
Any help greatly appreciated!

Make sure you uncheck "Include issue # with volume" in the format.

thanks for your note - it is unchecked. Can anything else be the problem?

I think the problem is that issue is actually a virtual field, and won't work with the binding quote feature. Why not try something like

$Vol.$v $No.$i, d

If there is no issue, the preceding No. won't be output.
