Hello
First time caller, long time listener. I have a new problem I have never had before. I have checked for Word updates (I use 2004) and BE updates, restarted the softwares and computer, etc, yet it persists. The characters with accents are causing havoc with my scanning. Any accented characters in my references are not properly scanned: so, even if both the in-text and the database say é, I get an unmatched citation warning that lists the letter as È and no match is made.
Is there a change with the latest update, or can someone please suggest how I can avoid this problem?
Thanks,
Kathryn
new troubles with accents and scanning
Re: new troubles with accents and scanning
Hi,
It looks like an encoding issue (the Word document may have an internal encoding other than Latin-1 or MacRoman). Was it originally on a PC? You might try reinserting the offending citation, although that will probably not help. You can workaround this for now by deleting the word/name with the é. But please send me the Word document and I'll take a look at it (support@sonnysoftware.com).

Re: new troubles with accents and scanning
I'm having this exact problem, with a twist. References with accents (é, í, ñ, etc.) that I entered into Bookends last June survive the Word 2004 scanning process intact. References with accents that I entered in the last month or so do not survive the Word 2004 scanning process. I have no bloody idea what I'm doing differently now compared to then. Any ideas?

Hi,
This is a tech support issues, and I'll have to have a small example of Word document and your database (zipped) sent to me so I can examine it.

Dear Jon
Have you found a solution to the encoding problem yet? I have the same problem with ü and é using 10.5.4 and Word 2004.
Cheers

Re: new troubles with accents and scanning
Hi,
This was a while ago, but as I recall the issue she reported was due to a Word 2004 upgrade that changed encoding information in the Word document. I fixed that right away. If you're running into a problem it maybe a different issue. Please contact me directly for tech support (and include a small Word document that illustrates the problem).
