Embed COinS in HTML export

I am having trouble embedding COinS reference metadata in an HTML bibliography. I have verified that "Embed reference metadata..." is checked in preferences. Next, I choose File > Export References (Hits)... and export the hits to HTML using my bibliography format.

However, when I open the HTML in Firefox, Zotero doesn't recognize the COinS. And when I look at the page source, it's just basic HTML -- only markup for italics and line breaks.

What step am I missing?
